MRTC supports IHA pilot proposal and receives approval for FCC funding.

Iowa Rural Health Telecommunications Program

Many Iowa hospitals, including most MRTC members, will benefit from direct access to fiber optic telecommunications. FCC funding of $9.9 million awarded in November 2007 will pay for 85 per cent of construction costs to build fiber links to over 85 Iowa hospitals. The construction of the fiber network will be completed during a 3-year period. A collaborative effort between the Iowa Hospital Association (IHA), MRTC members and other individual Iowa hospitals and health care systems developed the proposal that was among 69 projects funded by the FCC. The ultra high-capacity network will provide the hospitals capacity and security to support many telehealth applications.
