Mercy Medical Center - Dubuque

Mercy Health Network - DubuqueIn 1879 Archbishop John Hennessy invited the Sisters of Mercy to come to Dubuque to open the city’s first hospital.  The small band of sisters arrived on January 13 and four days later admitted their first patient to Mercy Hospital. Over the years, that hospital evolved into the leader in regional health care.

As the source of cardiac care in the Dubuque region, Mercy has opened a new cardiology center, added medical staff and expanded services to include bi-ventricular pacing, implanted defibrillators, and electrophysiology.

The Mercy Birth Center is the busiest in Dubuque. Families enjoy the warm, comfortable accommodations and the sense of well being that comes with the availability of advanced fetal monitoring, the level two regional neonatal intensive care unit and a sophisticated security system.

Mercy’s expanded and renovated emergency department is staffed by physicians who are residency trained and board certified in emergency medicine.

Mercy has home care services and equipment and rehabilitation services, retail pharmacies, a pharmacy exclusively serving long-term care facility residents and a home medical equipment store.  In addition to the Dubuque campus, Mercy Medical Center – Dyersville is a separately licensed Critical Access Hospital, which also houses a 40-bed nursing home.   Together with Medical Associates Clinic, Mercy operates nine rural clinics, an occupational health business, and an outpatient surgery center.
